A special administrative region, or SAR may be:

;People's Republic of China
* Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, present-day administrative divisions set up by the People's Republic of China in Hong Kong (since 1997) and Macau (since 1999)

;Republic of China
* Special administrative region (Republic of China), also translated as "special administrative districts", historic administrative divisions set up by the Republic of China when it administered mainland China

; North Korea
* Administrative divisions of North Korea#Special Administrative Regions: Sinŭiju Special Administrative Region (established 2002, present status unclear)

; Indonesia
* Aceh, Special Region of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (Special Administrative Region of Aceh)
* East Timor (formerly proposed, now a sovereign state)
* Yogyakarta, Special Region of Yogyakarta (It is the only province in Indonesia that is still formally governed by a precolonial Sultanate)
* Papua (Indonesia) (formerly proposed, currently a province)

; Philippines
* Cordillera Administrative Region (established in 1987)
