Gehenna is a fictional Asian American supporting character published by DC Comics. She first appeared as a cameo in "Villains United" #5 (November 2005) before making a full appearance in "Firestorm" #17. She was created by Stuart Moore and Jamal Igle.

Fictional character biography

Gehenna is a mysterious young girl with the powers of teleportation and telepathy. Her telepathy has so far been limited to the people involved in the Firestorm matrix. Whether she can use it with anyone who's not part of the Firestorm matrix is as yet unknown.

Her main connection with Firestorm, however, is Firestorm's primary host Jason Rusch. Jason found and rescued Gehenna during his escape from a hideout of the Society during the Villains United mini-series. Gehenna used her powers to help Firestorm in his escape, only to teleport away, startled by the wind flapping on her face, when he brought her outside the complex.

Gehenna claims to be five years old, yet has the body of an older teenager, had no concept of 'outside' prior to her first appearance, and calls Jason her 'boyfriend' despite a lack of any romantic relationship between the two - as far as Jason is concerned, anyway.

She apparently lives with her "father", a mysterious figure who claims to know more about Firestorm than anyone else. How and if her father was involved with the villainous plans of the Society is still unknown.

Gehenna later tried to contact Firestorm to investigate her father's "strange behavior". Feeling rejected by Jason (in fact Jason was going to join Donna Troy in space), and jealous of the "adult friends" that Firestorm seemed to prefer to her, Gehenna closed their telepathic communication without warning.

Jason later had a semi-mystical experience in the Firestorm matrix; at its conclusion, Gehenna - or at least a memory of her - told him he knew what to do - he'd always known. The two embraced, and Jason returned to the 'normal' matrix. What this reveals about Jason's perception of Gehenna is open to debate.

After the One Year Later event, the still naive Gehenna moved in New York. Still searching for her mysterious father, and still looking for Jason's help in the matter, she now let her love blossom in a true engagement. Gehenna, still adapting to the outside life, in fact spends more and more time in Jason's apartment, and the two are currently dating, but she is jealous of Firehawk, who was currently bonded with Jason at the beginning of the first OYL storyline as part of an unstable Firestorm matrix (because the merger was not between Jason and Professor Martin Stein, who was missing at the time, the two were forced to stay within one mile of each other).

Albeit worried at first, Alvin Rusch, Jason's father, was soon conquered by the naiveté of his son's girlfriend, assuaging his earlier reservations he formerly had on their relation.
