R28 (New York City Subway car)

R28 (New York City Subway car)

The R28 was a New York City Subway car built in 1960–61 by American Car and Foundry (ACF). The R28 fleet ran on the NYCS service|2 and NYCS service|5 Routes before being retired in 2002. The R28 was rebuilt in 1985-87 by Morrison Knudsen in Hornell, New York.

Cars 7924-7925 and 7926-7927 survive. 7926-27 is intended for the Illinois Railway Museum collection.

These were the last ever passenger cars built by ACF, which has since continued to focus on freight rolling stock.
