A 6'4", 254-lb. linebacker and defensive end, Thomas was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 1st round (6th overall) of the 1989 NFL Draft. He played nine seasons in the NFL for the Buccaneers, Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, and Dallas Cowboys.

Thomas is also the nephew of former Chicago Bears linebacker Mike Singletary. He is also famous for trying to board a plane with a loaded handgun in his luggage. He sparked controversy in calling the University of Missouri football program "bottom of the barrel" on a call in radio show after Nebraska lost to Missouri 41-6 on October 6, 2007.
