Alonsa, Manitoba

Alonsa (2006 Population 1,641) is a community located in north central Manitoba in the Rural Municipality of Alonsa.

Alonsa grew in the early 1900's with the coming of the railroad. The rail line was never extended beyond Alonsa and in 1961, the rail service ended, as the service ends, the population starts to drop, during 2001 to 2006, the population dropped 11.9% [http://www12.statcan.ca/english/census06/data/popdwell/Table.cfm?T=301&SR=95&S=1&O=A&RPP=100&SRCH=1 Statistics Canada profile] The area is accessible now by Provincial Trunk Highways 50 and 66.

Recreation and Attractions

Lake Manitoba is one of the largest attractions near Alonsa. The community attracts tourists headed to the lake for fishing or swimming.

The Alex Robertson Museum in Alonsa has a large collection of antique firearms and pioneer artifacts which is open to the public on Sundays.
