Heswall railway station is a railway station located on the eastern edge of the town of Heswall on the Wirral Peninsula, Merseyside, England. It is situated on the Borderlands Line. The station and all trains serving it are operated by Arriva Trains Wales. By the end of September 2008, the station will have been fully refurbished and partly rebuilt, a station adoption ceremony will officially take place on the day of completion, to be announced at a later date. Until then, the station is supported by scaffolding and temporary shelters.

The station was previously known as Heswall Hills, as there was previously another station serving Heswall, on the Birkenhead Railway's branch line from West Kirby to Hooton, that is now a footpath known as the Wirral Way. The Grid reference for this station is SJ 286 820.

Arriva Trains Wales operate their 'Adopt-a-Station' policy here, where there station is reported upon and light tasks are undertaken by volunteers. This station does not currently have any adoption vacancies. [ [http://www.arrivatrainswales.co.uk/Stations_Available2.aspx Arriva Trains Wales | Stations Available ] ]

Original Heswall station

This station was built in 1886, on the Birkenhead Railway's branch line from Hooton to West Kirby. This line passed through the western side of Heswall, alongside the River Dee. This station closed to passengers in 1956 and closed completely in 1962. While being on the line currently occupied by the Wirral Way any walker following the former track bed will not pass close to the station's site; the original station house was sold into private ownership (Ken Lamberton, used to be a member of the Riley Register) and then subsequently sold on for development (date required). The site was raised and built over in the 1960s and all walkers, cyclists, etc. must take a detour to regain the track bed.

The Grid reference for this station is SJ 266 808. It is about 2.4km south west of the active station on the Bidston to Wrexham line.

ervices

From Monday to Saturday, there is an hourly service between Bidston and Wrexham Central (two-hourly in the evening). There is an irregular service on Sundays.
