Livingston North railway station is one of two railway stations serving the new town of Livingston in West Lothian, Scotland. It is located on the Edinburgh-Bathgate Line 25 km (15½ miles) west of Edinburgh.

There is also another railway station in the town, Livingston South on the Shotts Line.

History

The station was opened as Livingston by the Edinburgh and Bathgate Railway on 12 November 1849. Between December 1875 and July 1925 it was renamed as Livingstone. British Railways closed the station on 1 November 1948.

Reopening

Reopening came as part of the reopening of the Edinburgh to Bathgate Line in 1986. Ever since, train services at Livingston North have normally been operated by diesel multiple units (initially Class 101s, then from 1987 Class 150s and by 2008 Class 156, Class 158 or Class 170s).

The railway will be electrified as part of the Airdrie-Bathgate Rail Link which will result in the second platform being brought into service in October 2008, and by 2010 through trains from Livingston North station to Glasgow operated by electric multiple units.
