Colonel Hezekiah Spruill was born January 22, 1732,[1] and died March 20, 1804,[1] in what is now Tyrrell County, North Carolina in the United States. Spruill was an early planter, a member of the North Carolina Provincial Congress and a revolutionary.[2] The following epitaph is found on his tombstone:

My loving friends as you pass by, As you are now, so once was I, As I am now so you must be, Prepare my friends to follow me.[1]
