Peter Pan Stakes

The Peter Pan Stakes is a race for thoroughbred horses run each year at Belmont Park on Long Island, New York. A Grade II event, it's open to three-year-olds willing to race nine furlongs on the dirt. The Peter Pan carries a purse of $200,000.

In its 56th year in 2009, the race is run in honor of a colt born in 1906 called Peter Pan by Commando by Domino. Peter Pan was 1907's champion three-year-old male and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1956.

Ponder won this race in 1949. Gallant Man won it in 1957, Slew o'Gold in 1983, Seeking The Gold in 1988, and A.P. Indy in 1992.

The Peter Pan did not run between the years 1961 through 1974.
