Brett Ryan Ormerod (born 18 October 1976 in Blackburn, Lancashire) is an English professional football player. He plays as a striker for Preston North End.

Ormerod began his professional career at Accrington Stanley; however, he was quickly snapped up by Blackpool in 1997 for £50,000 [http://www.soccerbase.com/players_details.sd?playerid=12263] . During his four years with Blackpool, he suffered a badly broken leg that kept him out of the team in the 1999-2000 season. When he made his return the following season, he helped the team to promotion. After a couple of seasons back in Division Two, he was signed by Premiership side Southampton for £1.75m [http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A33175127] . He appeared in the 2003 FA Cup Final, in which Southampton lost 1-0 to a Robert Pires goal in the 37th minute. Ormerod found first-team opportunities limited at Southampton, and he was loaned out to several clubs, including Leeds United and Wigan Athletic. After Southampton were relegated to the Championship, he was able to play more often after the sale of several teammates who had been keeping him out of the team. On 28 January 2006, he was snapped up on a free transfer by Blackpool's arch-rivals Preston North End [http://www.football.co.uk/preston_north_end/players/brett_ormerod_15024.shtml] .

On 8 May 2006, he broke his leg during the playoff semi-final second leg against Leeds United. He made a rapid recovery, however, and came on as a substitute in the wins against Ipswich Town and Hull City, and scored his first goal of the season in the 3-2 defeat against Burnley at Turf Moor .

On 7 March 2008, he signed on loan for Nottingham Forest until the end of the 2007-08 season [cite news | date=2008-03-07 | url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/nottm_forest/7283182.stm | title=Preston's Ormerod moves to Forest | publisher=bbc.co.uk | accessdate=2008-03-07] , becoming Forest's second loan signing following the arrival of Will Hoskins from Watford [cite news | date=2008-03-07 | url=http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A33175127 | title=Forest sign Brett Ormerod | publisher = bbc.co.uk | accessdate=2008-08-04] . He scored two goals for Forest in thirteen appearances against Walsall and Northampton Town, with his decent form helping Forest gain promotion to the Championship.
