Glutamatergic system

Glutamatergic system

The glutamatergic neurotransmitter system plays a crucial role in memory formation and information processing. Glutamate is the most common excitatory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. Disturbances in this system contribute to the manifestation of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder symptoms and possibly other illnesses such as psychosis, clinical depression, alzheimer's disease and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
