Joni Eareckson Tada (born October 15 1949 in Baltimore, Maryland) is an American Christian author, artist, and disability advocate. A 1967 diving accident left her a quadriplegic, and she learned to paint by holding a paintbrush between her teeth. Joni is now married to Ken Tada and is founder and CEO of "Joni and Friends", an "organization accelerating Christian ministry in the disability community". She is the author of numerous Christian books, including Gold Medallion Book Award winner "Pearls of Great Price" [ [http://www.ecpa.org/christianbookawards/cba2007.php 2007 Gold Medallion Book Awards Winners - Inspirational and Gift category] ] , bestsellers "The God I Love" [ [http://www.ecpa.org/bestseller/bestseller1003.php Christian Bestsellers List, October 2003] ] and "You’ve Got a Friend", [ [http://www.ecpa.org/bestseller/bestseller0304.php Christian Bestsellers List, March 2004] ] and an autobiography entitled "Joni", which was later made into a film (1980) in which she played herself. Around this time, Joni also recorded two acclaimed LP albums; 'Joni's Song' (1981) and 'Spirit Wings' (1982), the first of several musical projects. Tada has a daily radio program.
