Hyderabad is an important seat of learning in southern India. The city hosts two central universities, three deemed universities, and six state universities.
Osmania University is one of the oldest universities in India. Many institutes for technical education likeJawaharlal Nehru Technological University , International Institute of Information Technology and medical colleges are located there. Also based in the city are theIndian School of Business and the National Academy of Legal Studies & Research (NALSAR ). Hyderabad has various research institutes such as theIndian Institute of Chemical Technology and theCentre for Cellular and Molecular Biology . Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages is a proposed central university which has been providing ground-breaking research opportunities since its inception in 1958 as Central Institute of English. The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) has also launched a convert|200|acre|km2|sing=on campus at Jawaharnagar near Shamirpet on the outskirts of the city.The Campus is starting in the academic year 2008-2009 with 600 students selected through the BITSAT test.BITS-PILANI University is ranked at No.7 by the outlook Rankings in the year 2008.
