Education in Hyderabad, India

Hyderabad is an important seat of learning in southern India. The city hosts two central universities, three deemed universities, and six state universities. Osmania University is one of the oldest universities in India. Many institutes for technical education like Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, International Institute of Information Technology and medical colleges are located there. Also based in the city are the Indian School of Business and the National Academy of Legal Studies & Research (NALSAR). Hyderabad has various research institutes such as the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology and the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology. It is also the home of Maulana Azad National Urdu University as well as BR Ambedkar Open University. This educational infrastructure attracts students from all over India and some international students (especially from Africa and the Middle East).

Indian School of Business

Indian School of Business was setup in 1999 with help of Andhra Pradesh Government and a group of Fortune 500 entrepreneurs. It is an international management school providing postgraduate programmes in management in collaboration with London Business School, Wharton Business School and Kellogg School of Management.

Proposed Central University

Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages is a proposed central university which has been providing ground-breaking research opportunities since its inception in 1958 as Central Institute of English. Starting off as an institute set for improvising the standards of language teaching in India, it went on to include a lot more. The Foreign Languages arm was added in 1972.

IIIT Hyderabad

IIIT Hyderabad is a deemed university setup in 1998. Dataquest ranked IIIT-H 9th among tech-schools in India in a recent survey. The IIIT campus is located near the Hi-Tec City.

BITS Pilani,Hyderabad Campus

The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) has also launched a convert|200|acre|km2|sing=on campus at Jawaharnagar near Shamirpet on the outskirts of the city.The Campus is starting in the academic year 2008-2009 with 600 students selected through the BITSAT test.BITS-PILANI University is ranked at No.7 by the outlook Rankings in the year 2008.
