Campus

The school's campus is split into two major sections, which are both split into sub-sections.

The first section is the north campus. The north campus is split into the main building and the 9th Grade Academy.

The main building houses the offices (Administrative, Main, Counseling, and Attendance) along with a set of English and Social Studies classrooms, the Band and Choir Halls, and the Cafeteria.

Although the 9th Grade Academy houses mainly freshmen-level classes, including 9th grade Algebra I, Biology, English I, and remedial classes, it also is home to a few upper-level courses[citation needed].

The south campus is split into the 15 Classroom Building (Math/Science Hall), the Round Building classrooms, the Media Center building, the gym, and the auditorium. The Auditorium was the only part of the school affected by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and has been completely renovated since. It was completed January 2007.

In the 15 classroom building, the classes are primarily sciences (such as Chemistry, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Physics, and AP Physics), and Mathematics (upper-level Algebra I, Algebra II, Advanced Algebra, Accelerated and Regular Geometry, Probability and Statistics, Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus AB and BC). The round building mainly has foreign languages (French and Spanish), health classes, and JROTC classes.

The principal of Ocean Springs High School until 2006 was Robert Hirsch. In the fall of 2006, David Lynn Baggett stepped in as the new principal. Robert Hirsch has since been elected as Superintendent.

New campus

As of November 2009, a new High School campus is being built. As it stands currently, the campus should be finished by the class of 2013's graduating year.

Extracurricular activities

The Ocean Springs High School sports team mascot is the Greyhound. OSHS has several sports teams, including Football, Track and Field, Swimming, Cross Country, Fast and Slow pitch Softball, Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, Golf, Tennis, and Baseball. The high school is also the first in Mississippi to have a wrestling team.

The most recent sports award has gone to the 2008 Greyhound Baseball Team, which won the Mississippi High School Class 5A State Championship in Jackson, Mississippi.

Other information

  • The North Campus used to be the junior high school, which became a middle school and was moved to its current area, and the high school consisted only of the current South Complex. The cafeteria was shared between the two schools, and the South Campus had its own office by the auditorium.
  • The South Campus was built in the late 1960s and the early 1970s. The North Campus was built in the late 1970s. Ever since then, the school has undergone many remodeling changes in order to accommodate different types of classes, such as the three Technology Discovery classrooms on the North Campus that must accommodate 13 rather large modules.
  • In the 2003–04 football season, under the leadership of veteran seniors, the Greyhounds broke a ten-year losing streak, finishing 7–4. They suffered a final defeat at the hands of Picayune Memorial High School.
  • In the 2004–05 football season, the Greyhounds reached the state championship against South Panola only to lose 21-39 in Jackson, Mississippi.
  • In the 2007–08 baseball season, the Greyhounds won the 5A State Championship
  • During the 2008-09 school year, Ocean Springs High School created the first public high school wrestling team in Mississippi.
  • During the 2008-09 competition theater season, their competition team made it to state for the first time in five years with the show La Dispute.
  • During the 2009-10 competition theater season, their competition team made it to state with the show Children of a Lesser God.
