Marquis of Tamandaré

Joaquim Marques Lisboa best known as "Marquês of Tamandaré" (Rio Grande, December 13, 1807Rio de Janeiro, march 20, 1897), was the admiral in control of the Brazilian naval fleet for much of the War of the Triple Alliance. He led the fleet in successfully ousting Atanásio Aguirre from rule in Uruguay and in the disaster in Curupaity and was replaced by Admiral Joaquim José Inácio, future Viscount of Inhaúma, in 1866.
