Lucien Bourjeily

Lucien Bourjeily is a Lebanese actor & director.

Born in Beirut, Bourjeily studied acting techniques at the Lebanese Modern Theater School and joined the Lebanese Modern Theater Troupe in 1999

He has played leading roles in Sophocles' Oedipus Rex (Beiteddine International Festival - 1999), Debs' Night Signs & The Dragon (2000), Chekhov's masterpiece Uncle Vania(2002), and Ionesco's The Chairs(2003), all under the direction of Lebanese/French theatrical pioneer Mounir A. Debs.

Moreover he played in leading roles in many lebanese short films like Nihayat el Bidaya (2003), Patrick (2003), Ma2sat (2004)

He started his directing career in 2001 with "A Natural Tragedy" (Ma2sat Tabi3iya) performed at the Lebanese American University in Beirut. In 2002, with Jean Paul Hage, he created the Lebanese International Performance Group and went on to direct his first major production with the newly formed ensemble called Chekhov's Comedies (2004) at the Monnot Theater in Beirut.

In 2006 he directed "A Jubilee" (Al Youbil), a 3 one-act comedy show by A. Chekhov also at the Monnot Theater in Beirut.

In 2007, he directed "Unusual people" (Ness Gheir Chikel - 2007) with great success at the Beryte Theater in Beirut.

Lately (since March 2008) he has initiated, with great success, the Lebanese Street Theater Group so as to encourage something different than politics in the streets of Lebanon. This initiatve has been highlighted by a lot of interest from local and regional media outlets as a peacful artistic form of expression in reponse to the recent street clashes in Beirut.

In May-June 2008 he directed "Sou2 Tafehom" at the Monnot Theater in Beirut which was viewed as a truly innovative adaptation of Camus' "the misunderstanding" and was praised by both critics and public alike.

His directing has been praised as mixing realism with symbolism while always keeping the essential stage elements in proper contrast.
