Lasher (Ramon Hernandez [Spider-Man: Back In Black Handbook (April 2007)] ) is a fictional character, a supervillain from the Spider-Man comic books. He is one of six symbiote spawns of Venom. He is predominantly green and the name "Lasher" derives from the character's action figure. In the comic books he was only known by his first name Ramon.

Fictional character biography

Ramon Hernandez is a mercenary who worked for a sinister corporation called the Life Foundation. The Foundation was preparing for the M.A.D. fallout of the Cold War and sought to provide a comfortable life for their wealthy clients after the impending nuclear holocaust. The Life Foundation was experimenting with the Venom symbiote in the hopes of developing superhuman peacekeepers to watch over their imagined fallout shelter utopia. Ramon is one of the small group of men and women who are chosen as hosts for Venom's forcibly-extracted spawn.

Ramon and his "siblings" were defeated by Venom and Spider-Man [""] , his symbiote artificially aged to dust and his body presumed destroyed in a massive explosion.

Ramon and his siblings break Eddie Brock out of prison and kidnapped him in a last ditch effort to communicate with their alien "others". Ramon and the men wishing to control their symbiotes in an effort to do good with them. ["Venom: Separation Anxiety"] . During this, Ramon and the others are pursued by a high-tech group of vigilantes who also wish to destroy all the symbiotes.

Ramon is killed by Scream with a sonic knife. Scream had gone insane from a long-term, pre-symbiote conflict with the voices in her head and had come to believe that slaying all the symbiotes was the best way to end their evil. Scream also kills the other symbiotes and hosts.

What was left of the symbiote combines with his siblings (except Carnage and Scream) to form the new antihero called Hybrid. His status is unknown.

Power and abilities

Lasher possesses all the powers the original Venom has, including suit generated webbing, shape-shifting, superhuman strength and the inability to be detected by Spider-Man's "spider-sense". In addition, Lasher has the capability of creating thick green mucus from his suit that crushes its victim under its weight as well as using the tentacles from the suit to "lash" or grab its victim.
