Sarnia Observer

The "Sarnia Observer" is a daily newspaper in Sarnia, Ontario and Lambton County. The paper was once owned by the Thompson family but has since sold to Sun Media. It has a circulation of 18,500 in Lambton County. It began publishing in 1853 and has continued to be a source for local media in the area.

During its heyday of the 1970s when the paper was owned by the Thomson family, the circulation was as high as 25,000. The "Observer" for many years was a stepping stone for aspiring journalists as many went on to larger papers, including Karen Palmer ("The Globe and Mail"), Mary Jane Egan ("London Free Press") and Mike Fisher ("Calgary Sun"). A former summer student was Patricia Rozema, later an internationally renowned film director.
