Poplar and Limehouse will be a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It will elect one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election.

This seat was created following the review of parliamentary representation in North London by the Boundary Commission for England.

Boundaries

The electoral wards used to create the new seat of Poplar and Limehouse are entirely within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. A number of alternative names, including "Tower Hamlets South" and "Poplar and Millwall" were rejected following public consultation.

*The constituency comprises the wards of Blackwall and Cubitt Town, Bromley-by-Bow, East India and Lansbury, Limehouse, Mile End East, Millwall, St Katherine’s and Wapping, Shadwell.
*The seat is almost exclusively within the boundaries of the old Poplar and Canning Town constituency, with the only new additions being the parts of Shadwell and St Katherine's and Wapping which used to be part of Bethnal Green and Bow.
*The areas of the old Poplar and Canning Town seat within the London Borough of Newham were shorn from the seat and transferred into East Ham (5.1% of Poplar and Canning Town) and West Ham (24.9%). [http://www.electoralcalculus.co.uk/index.html?bdy_nolon_summary.html]

George Galloway, current Respect Member of Parliament in the neighbouring seat of Bethnal Green and Bow announced on 10 August2007 that he will stand in the new Poplar and Limehouse constituency against the incumbent MP, Jim Fitzpatrick.
