Tom Shebbeare

Sir Tom Shebbeare, KCVO, is Director of Charities to His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.

Shebbeare was educated at the University of Exeter, of which he was made an honorary LLD in 2005.

He joined the United Kingdom Branch of World University Service in 1973. In 1975 he became General Secretary of the British Youth Council. From 1980 to 1985 he was on the staff of the Council of Europe. From 1985 to 1988 he was Executive Director of the European Youth Foundation.

He then was recruited to head The Prince's Trust as its first full-time Director, in 1988. In 1999 the position was renamed Chief Executive. In 2003 he left the Prince's Trust, being succeeded by Martina Milburn, to join the Office of the Prince of Wales as head of its new Charities Office.

The great uncle of Shebbeare's father is Robert Haydon Shebbeare who won the Victoria Cross for bravery.

Shebbeare was knighted as a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order in 2003.
