Young Broadcasting (NASDAQ|YBTVA) is an American holding company that operates 13 television stations. Though the company is publicly held, it is the outgrowth of the ad representation/invest firm "Adam Young, Inc." which was founded in 1944 by Adam Young and is currently run in part by his son, Vincent.

Young Broadcasting entered station ownership in 1986, when it purchased stations in Lansing, Michigan and La Crosse, Wisconsin. In 1999, Young Broadcasting set a record for the purchase price of a single station when it purchased KRON-TV in San Francisco, California for $823 million from Chronicle Broadcasting. On January 10, 2008, Young Broadcasting announced that they intend to sell KRON, which during Young's ownership has migrated from an NBC affiliation to an independent to its current affiliation with MyNetworkTV. These changes have aversely affected KRON-TV's value, with broadcasting experts anticipating that Young will sell the station as a huge loss, possibly as much as 40 percent.

All of these sales were done to either finance or pay off debt pertaining to the KRON purchase. For several years, rumors of the company either leaving broadcasting, selling off more stations, or being bought have circulated though any future deals remain to be seen. Ironically, KRON itself has been put up for sale. Most analysis feel that the debt of the company may exceed the value of their assets.
