Puzhuthivakkam, commonly known as Ullagaram-Puzhuthivakkam is one of the southern suburbs of Chennai. Though near Chennai, it is a town in Kancheepuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.It neighbours the suburbs of Madipakkam, Adambakkam, Velachery, Pallikaranai and Nanganallur. This suburb of Chennai started to grow in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Some of the important landmarks of Puzhuthivakkam/Ullagaram are Medavakkam main road, Kumaran Theatre, Drowpathi Amman Kovil and Oil mills bus stop.

There are numerous schools in this area. Some of them are Vyasa Vidhyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, New Prince, Prince and Karpaga Vigneshwara.

This area is under a slow paced development since the 1970s, and most areas in this suburb often suffer from bad roads, water, sewage, garbage dumping, spoiling of the Pallikaranai marshlands and electricity problems, which are often neglected by the local politicians.

The Puzhuthivakkam administration comes under the Ullagaram-Puzhuthivakkam municipality.

There are several places of worship in this locality. A few of them include Shri Vijaya Ganapathy Temple (Ullagaram), Shri Anchaneya temple at Hindu colony (Ullagaram), Shri Badala Vigneshwara temple (Puzhuthivakkam), Shri Drowpathy Amman temple at Vanuvampet (Ullagaram), St. Judes Catholic Church at Vanuvampet (Ullagaram) and Sri Ramar temple at Ram Nagar (Puzhuthivakkam).

Demographics

As of 2001 India census [GR|India] , Puzhuthivakkam had a population of 29,086. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Puzhuthivakkam has an average literacy rate of 85%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 88%, and female literacy is 82%. In Puzhuthivakkam, 9% of the population is under 6 years of age.
