Alnwick Town F.C.

Alnwick Town F.C.

Alnwick Town F.C. are a football club based in Alnwick, Northumberland, England. Currently they are members of the Northern Alliance Premier Division.

Their exact date of formation is unknown, but they are thought to have developed from a club called Alnwick United Services formed in 1879.

The club joined the Northern Alliance league in 1935, and won the title on nine occasions. Several applications to join the Northern League were denied, before that competition expanded to two divisions in 1982, and Alnwick were admitted as founder members of the new division. They have spent the majority of the period since in the lower division, a solitary runner-up position in 1988-89 earning them promotion to the upper tier where they managed only a two-season spell before being relegated back to Division Two.

Recent excursions into FA Competitions haven't brought great success either. In their last 8 entries into the FA Cup (to 2005-06), they have lost at the first hurdle, while the same has been true in 4 out of their last 5 FA Vase campaigns.

Their ground has been St James Park, Weavers Way, since 1900. Since admission to the Northern League, a large amount of money has been spent on upgrading the facilities, including a clubhouse and floodlights, officially inaugurated by the team from the North East's other St James Park, Newcastle United.
