Thirsk and Malton will be a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It will elect one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election.

A previous Thirsk and Malton constituency existed from 1885 to 1983.

Boundaries

Following their review of parliamentary representation in North Yorkshire, the Boundary Commission for England has recommended the creation of a new seat of Thirsk and Malton. This takes electoral wards from Ryedale and Vale of York.

The electoral wards used in the new constituency will be:

*The entire district of Ryedale
*The Scarborough wards of Filey and Hertford
*The Hambleton wards of Easingwold, Helperby, Huby with Sutton, Shipton, Sowerby, Stillington, Thirsk, Thorntons, Tollerton, Topcliffe, White Horse, and Whitestonecliffe

On November 18, 2006, Thirsk and Malton Conservative Association unexpectedly [http://blog.appgifs.org.uk/2006/11/so_what_did_happen_in_thirsk_m.html] chose Anne McIntosh (sitting MP for Vale of York) as their candidate in preference to Ryedale's sitting MP John Greenway.
