Supreme Novices' Hurdle

__NOTOC__The Supreme Novices' Hurdle is a Grade 1 National Hunt hurdle race in the United Kingdom for four-year-old and above novices. It is run over a distance of 2 miles 110 yards (3,319 m) on the Old Course at Cheltenham Racecourse during the Cheltenham Festival in March. There are eight hurdles to be jumped in the race.

As the opening race on the first day of the Festival, the start of the race is traditionally greeted by the "Cheltenham Roar" which signifies the beginning of the festivities.

Until 1974 the race was known as the Gloucestershire Hurdle. Prior to 1972 it was split into separate divisions, usually two, but in both 1946 and 1963 there were three races.

Winners

* "Amateur jockeys indicated by "Mr"."
* "Separate divisions of the race indicated by (1), (2) and (3)."* The 2001 race was cancelled because of the 2001 United Kingdom foot-and-mouth crisis.

Notes

* 1964 - Flyingbolt won the Cotswold Chase in 1965, and the Queen Mother Champion Chase and Irish Grand National in 1966.
* 1968 - L'Escargot later won the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 1970 and 1971 and the Grand National in 1975.
* 1970 - Bula went on to win the Champion Hurdle in 1971 and 1972.
* 1978 - Golden Cygnet fell fatally in the following month's Scottish Champion Hurdle.
* 1983 - Buck House subsequently won the Queen Mother Champion Chase in 1986.
* 1993 - By winning the opening race Montelado won two successive races at the Cheltenham Festival, having won the final race of the 1992 Festival, the Champion Bumper.
* 1999 - Hors La Loi III won the Champion Hurdle in 2002.
* 2004 - Brave Inca won the Champion Hurdle in 2006.
* 2007 - Ebaziyan was formerly trained on the flat by John Oxx, and was bred by the Aga Khan IV.
