Emmer Green

Emmer Green is a village situated north of the River Thames, on the outskirts of Reading, Berkshire in the United Kingdom. The village lies very near the border with Oxfordshire, within Peppard Ward of the Reading Borough Council.

Landmarks

There are two churches, St. Barnabas [http://www.saintbarnabas.org.uk] and The Chapel-On-The-Hill; a retirement home; two primary schools; a secondary school, Highdown; Harvey's Nurseries, a mobile home site; a shopping precinct; a recreation ground split between Caversham park villiage with a children's play area and where Caversham AFC play soccer on weekends depending on the season; a duck pond, with benches nearby for people to sit on; a post office , which re-opened in May 2007, and two public houses, The Black Horse and The White Horse, which are situated on opposite sides of the road 20 yards from each other. Reading Golf Club is a few hundred yards from both pubs, along Kidmore End Road.

Transportation

It is served by two principal bus routes with confusingly 4 different numbers. The circular 23/24 route which goes through Caversham to Central Reading and beyond to Coley, and the 137/138 route which runs from Reading Station to Sonning Common in South Oxfordshire. These routes are run by Reading Buses.
