Richard Melville Ballerand is a tri-national international policy adviser and multiple charity trustee, formerly senior partner at Dorrington Associates, a low-key policy advisory group and thinktank. He originally worked in investment banking in New York, has served as a military liaison officer worldwide, and was also a consultant to the DTI.

Controversial relatives include a great great uncle, William Melville [ [http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe/article2013177.ece?token=null&offset=12 M: Britain's first spymaster was an Irishman who played patriot game - Times Online ] ] , who was allegedly the first chief of the British secret service, forerunner of MI5; and another, Pyotr Nikolayevich Wrangel, who commanded the White Armies of the south at the end of the Russian Civil War. Currently, close family members are scattered from Hong Kong to Hawaii, and from Cape Town to Kuwait, with most based between the United States and France.
