The Venture Bros. series has run four seasons.[1] The first three seasons consist of 13 thirty-minute episodes (including time for commercials), plus the pilot and one 15-minute Christmas special. The fourth season consists of 15 thirty-minute episodes and one hour-long season finale episode.

Adult Swim has also ordered two additional seasons, with pre-production on Season 5 to begin in June of 2011 [2], although no episode airing dates have yet been released.

Season 1: 2004

A recurring theme in the first season of The Venture Bros. was a series of dreams Dr. Venture would have where one fetus (with facial hair like himself) would attack another fetus (also with hair) in the womb. This began in the pilot episode before the creators knew where it would eventually lead them.[4] The dreams were explained in the season finale, "Return to Spider-Skull Island".

Hank and Dean become convinced that Gargantua-1 is haunted by a "phantom spaceman", while Dr. Venture discovers that the problem with the station is his own fault.

Theme park and cartoon magnate Roy Brisby kindaps Dr. Venture and attempts to extract from him his father's research on cloning, which the disabled Brisby desires in order to clone a new, healthy body. Meanwhile, Hank and Dean are abducted and brainwashed by the Orange County Liberation Front, who seek to overthrow Brisby and his Brisbyland park. Brock teams up with his old acquaintance, the mercenary Molotov Cocktease, to rescue the Ventures.

Necromancer Doctor Byron Orpheus moves into the Venture Compound as a tenant, and Dean is instantly smitten with his goth daughter Triana. Brock, Hank, and Dean become trapped inside Dr. Venture's latest invention, a "Joy Can" which creates hallucinations of the user's deepest desires, and the two Doctors are unable to free them. Dean's love for Triana eventually reveals the door and permits their escape.

The Venture family sails to the Bermuda Triangle on their hydrofoil, the X-2, to recover an experimental aircraft built by Dr. Venture's father which crashed there in 1969. While Dr. Venture explores the ocean floor in a robotic atmospheric diving suit, the X-2 is overtaken by pirates whose ship has been stuck in the sargassum for years. Dr. Venture is trapped underwater after his "metasonic locator" accidentally summons the screaming ghost of the experimental aircraft's pilot, Major Tom. Brock and Hank work together to subdue the pirates, deal with the ghost, and save Dr. Venture.

Dr. Venture, Pete White, and Billy Quizboy are recruited into a government think tank in the Arctic headed by Dr. Venture's former college professor, Richard Impossible. After flirting with Richard's wife Sally and discovering that the Impossibles all have freakish mutations, Dr. Venture is abandoned in the snow by Prof. Impossible and left to die. Meanwhile, Hank has been exposed to a serum that will eventually cause him to explode. Brock rushes him to the Arctic and saves Dr. Venture so that the think tank can come up with an antidote.

Brock is depressed to learn that his license to kill has expired, and Hank and Dean help him to prepare for his recertification exam. The Monarch sends Doctor Girlfriend undercover to seduce Dr. Venture and inject him with a serum that mutates him into a giant caterpillar. She regrets doing this, however, and eventually administers the antidote

The Monarch captures the Ventures, but when Dean suddenly begins to suffer acute testicular tortion he is bound by the laws of the Guild of Calamitous Intent to grant them a reprieve. Pete White and Billy Quizboy help Dr. Venture operate on Dean, while The Monarch holds Hank and Brock as collateral. Dean recovers, but Hank eventually suffers the same ailment.

Dr. Venture holds a large tag sale to raise income by selling off assorted inventions and equipment, an event which attracts many scientists and supervillains. Hank runs a lemonade and sandwich stand at the event, with Dean, Triana, and H.E.L.P.eR. as his employees. The Monarch takes the opportunity to instigate a riot so that he can sneak into the Venture Compound to use the restroom and vandalize Dr. Venture's equipment.

Dr. Venture, Brock, Pete White, and Baron Ünderbheit are kidnapped by robotics expert Mike Sorayama, who blames them for ruining his chances with a girl he had a crush on 20 years prior, when they were all college classmates. Hank and Dean reunite members of the original Team Venture, a group of adventurers who worked for their grandfather in the 1960s, to mount a rescue. The kidnapper turns out to be a robot, the real Mike Sorayama having died some time ago.

The Monarch and Dr. Girlfriend have a bitter breakup, and she returns to her former lover Phantom Limb. When The Monarch drunkenly attempts to win her back, Phantom Limb frames him for the murder of a police officer and The Monarch goes to trial. Phantom Limb, along with agents from the Guild of Calamitous Intent, ensures that The Monarch is found guilty and sent to prison, which upsets Dr. Girlfriend.

Dr. Venture has surgery to remove a tumor from his abdomen. Thinking that their father is pregnant, Hank and Dean run away from home and wind up in a Scared Straight!-style prison program led by The Monarch. The "tumor" turns out to be Dr. Venture's twin brother, who has been living inside him since being devoured while the two were still in the womb. The twin attempts to claim his birthright by killing Dr. Venture, but is stopped by Brock and H.E.L.P.eR. After a truce, he takes the name Jonas Venture Junior and Dr. Venture gives him the X-2 and their father's facility on Spider-Skull Island. The family recovers Hank and Dean, but they are accidentally killed by The Monarch's henchmen. 

Season 2: 2006

The second season's storyline picks up from Hank and Dean's accident, as well as The Monarch continuously attempting to reunite with Dr. Girlfriend who is in a relationship with Phantom Limb.

He and Brock ally to confront The Monarch at his cocoon base, while Dr. Girlfriend races there with Hank and Dean in tow, hoping to defuse the situation. The Monarch, Dr. Venture, and Henchmen 21 and 24 team up to take on the The Monarch's mutinous new henchmen.

Brock is sent on a mission by the Office of Secret Intelligence (OSI) to assassinate his mentor, Colonel Hunter Gathers, who has deserted the agency. He leaves the Ventures under the protection of Molotov Cocktease, who tries to whip the family into shape. Hank becomes enamored with Molotov and, after accidentally drugging himself, tries to kill his father, who he sees as a rival. Brock tracks Hunter to Micronesia, finds that the Colonel has undergone a sex change operation, and lets him live as he was taught never to kill women or children.

The Venture family is in the midst of a time travelling adventure involving Sigmund Freud, Caligula, Edgar Allan Poe, and an ancient Egyptian cult. They call on Dr. Orpheus to save them from a deathtrap, leading to a debate between Dr. Venture and Dr. Orpheus of science vs. magic, to be settled by a contest of shrinking. Dr. Venture is unable to repair his father's shrink ray even with the help of Pete White and Billy Quizboy, and Dr. Orpheus is unable to shrink himself despite consultation with his otherworldly Master. The contest ends in a draw, while Brock, Hank, and Dean continue the time-travelling escapade.

A videotape left by Jonas Venture Sr. indicates that an invention of his must be assembled and activated by midnight of the following day in order to avoid calamity on mankind. The Ventures are also visited by the Grand Galactic Inquisitor, a being from outer space who is evaluating them in order to pass judgment on humanity. With the help of Jonas Jr., the former pirate captain, and Sally Impossible, the Ventures must overcome a drug-addicted Jonny Quest and the interference of Professor Impossible to assemble the device in time.

Hank and Dean go on a double date with Triana and her friend Kim, at the same restaurant where Phantom Limb and Dr. Girlfriend are meeting with The Monarch and a girl he met online to discuss The Monarch's re-entry into the Guild of Calamitous Intent. The rivalry between The Monarch and Phantom Limb over Dr. Girlfriend leads Phantom Limb to order his Guild forces to eliminate the Ventures. Brock rushes to the rescue and gets him to call off the attack, while Kim expresses interest in Dr. Girlfriend's offer to become a supervillain.

The Venture family is captured in Ünderland by Baron Ünderbheit, who mistakes Dean for a girl and plans to marry him. Dr. Venture, Hank, and Brock are freed by the Ünderground, a resistance movement led by Catclops and Girl Hitler. They mount a rescue for Dean but are too late to prevent the wedding. However, when Dean's sex is revealed, Ünderbheit is arrested for violating his own law against same-sex marriage and is exiled from Ünderland, which becomes a democracy.

The Guild of Calamitous Intent approves Dr. Orpheus for an arch-nemesis, prompting him to reform his old team, the Order of the Triad, with Jefferson Twilight and The Alchemist. Jealous over the number of applicants for the position, Dr. Venture baits them into a battle by displaying his "walking eye". The job goes to Torrid, who impresses the team by kidnapping Triana. Meanwhile, The Monarch forces a prostitute through several deathtraps and Henchmen 21 and 24 attempt to strike out on their own using stolen jet packs

The Venture family stays at the White House for a state dinner in Bud's honor, where Hank and Dean are informed by the ghost of Abraham Lincoln that Bud's mind is being controlled by his mother through a microchip as part of a plan to assassinate the President. The boys and Lincoln's ghost must work together to foil the plot.

Hank and Dean are kidnapped by Myra Brandish, their father's insane former bodyguard who claims to be their mother. Meanwhile, Dr. Henry Killinger reorganizes The Monarch's villainous operation and helps him to reconcile with Dr. Girlfriend.

Dr. Venture succeeds in reanimating the corpse of one of The Monarch's slain henchmen, creating "Venturestein" which he hopes to turn into a money-making enterprise. Brock feels guilty about killing the henchman and attends a mystic ritual at Dr. Orpheus' apartment to reconcile his conscience. A group of mystery-solvers resembling the Scooby-Doo gang investigate the Venture Compound, leading Hank and Dean to discover their many clones. Dr. Venture convinces the boys that the clones are to be a Christmas present for them.

David Bowie attends to give away the bride, with Iggy Pop and Klaus Nomi in tow. Phantom Limb captures Dr. Girlfriend and reveals that his true goal is to eliminate David Bowie—revealed to be a shapeshifter and the Sovereign of the Guild of Calamitious Intent—and take his place. Brock leads The Monarch's henchmen in battle against Phantom Limb's forces, while Dean has a fantasy adventure that results in him shutting down the coccoon's engines. The battle ends when The Monarch's escape coccoon crashes into Phantom Limb's ship. Phantom Limb is maimed but escapes, while Bowie blesses The Monarch and Dr. Girlfriend's marriage. 

Season 3: 2008

On February 26, 2007, at the New York Comics Convention, Jackson Publick announced that Cartoon Network had ordered third and fourth seasons of the show.[5][6] A portion of a rough cut of "The Doctor is Sin" aired April 1, 2008 as part of an unannounced April Fools' Day sneak peek at upcoming shows.

Season three of The Venture Bros. reveals more backstory and character histories than the previous two seasons. A recurring issue deals with the history of the original Team Venture, as well as the death of Jonas Venture Senior. This season also touches upon the nascent and unregistered arching of Rusty Venture by the Monarch.

A head injury causes Billy Quizboy to recover his lost memories: Pete White made him cheat on a quiz show, ruining their reputations, and the two were rebuffed upon trying to get jobs working for Billy's hero, Dr. Venture. White mistakenly entered Billy in a dogfight, where he lost his hand and eye. Given robotic replacements by the Office of Secret Intelligence, Billy was enrolled undercover into the college course of Professor Fantomos, which Brock and Col. Gathers suspected was a recruiting front for the Guild of Calamitous Intent. He was involved in the accident that transformed Fantomos into Phantom Limb, then had his memory wiped by the OSI and was left in White's care, while Brock was demoted to being Dr. Venture's bodyguard.

The Monarch and Dr. Girlfriend move into Phantom Limb's former home in Malice, a gated community for supervillains. Sergeant Hatred is assigned by the Guild of Calmitous Intent to be Dr. Venture's new archenemy and invites him to a party, where he reveals his knowledge that The Monarch has been stealing weapons from him for years and that as revenge he intends to treat Dr. Venture, whom The Monarch truly hates, with kindness. Meanwhile, Hank, Dean, and Henchmen 21 and 24 are stalked by Dr. Girlfriend's Murderous Moppets.

Dr. Venture runs a summer day camp for young boys, with assistance from Brock, Billy Quizboy, the Order of the Triad, The Captain, Action Johnny, and Dr. Z. The Monarch sends the Moppets in undercover to spy on Dr. Venture. Hank befriends Dermott Fictel, a rude, obnoxious, lying teenager. Things go awry when Dr. Venture takes the children to his father's "E-den", a biosphere that turns out to house an angry gorilla. Dean becomes infuriated when Dermott insults Triana, and beats him up. Dr. Girlfriend debuts her new persona as Dr. Mrs. The Monarch.

While in the Amazon Rainforest, the Venture family encounters Dr. Tara Quymn, a childhood friend of Dr. Venture's who is now a famous scientist and adventurer researching cancer cures. Hank becomes infatuated with her mystery-solving teenage twin daughters Nancy and Drew, who are more interested in Dean, while their bodyguard Virginia makes awkward passes at Brock. The two doctors develop romantic feelings toward each other while Dean investigates "werodiles" that may be stalking them all.

Dr. Venture and Brock stumble upon a labyrinthine sublevel of the Venture Compound where they encounter shrunken original Team Venture member Dr. Entmann and a group of subterranean dwellers, all of whom have been trapped in the facility for thirty years. Hank, Dean, Pete White, and the Order of the Triad attempt to locate and assist them, while the facility's master computer threatens to launch a nuclear missile if it does not speak to Jonas Venture Sr.

Prohibited from antagonizing Dr. Venture, The Monarch has murdered his replacement archenemies and is losing interest in supervillany. He and Henchmen 21 and 24 decide to relive old times by conducting an unauthorized raid on the Venture Compound. They are discovered by Hank, Dean, and Dermott and have to trick and bribe their way out of being reported. Dr. Mrs. The Monarch arranges for The Monarch's next archenemy to be Jonas Venture Jr., a close substitute for Dr. Venture.

Jonas Jr. has turned Spider-Skull Island—a former supervillain headquarters captured by the original Team Venture in 1969—into a museum honoring his father's exploits. Among the attendees at the opening ceremony are the Venture family, the surviving members of Team Venture, and even the supervillains who formerly lived there. Awkwardness and tensions result, and Prof. Impossible makes vain attempts to win back Sally, who has left him for Jonas Jr. The Captain and his crew mutiny against Jonas Jr. and cause a melee that accidentally activates an old self-destruct device, threatening the entire event.

Jonas Jr. seeks advice from Brock and two OSI agents, Mr. Doe and Mr. Cardholder, on how to deal with his new nemesis, The Monarch. They authorize him to eliminate the villain using a death ray, since The Monarch has killed his last five archenemies. The Monarch sends Henchmen 21, 24, and 1 to infiltrate Spider-Skull Island, but Henchman 1—true to 21 and 24's prediction—is beaten and seemingly killed by Brock. Their mission is a success, however: Jonas Jr. is fooled into thinking that he has eliminated his enemy, and his use of lethal force opens a loophole in the Guild of Calamitous Intent's rules that allows The Monarch to resume arching Dr. Venture.

Season 4: 2009–2010

The fourth season of The Venture Bros. premiered on October 18, 2009.[7] Production began in June 2008 and overlapped production of season three.[8] The season aired as two sets of eight episodes, with the first eight beginning on October 18, 2009 and the next group of eight premiering September 12, 2010.[9]

The first half of the fourth season revolved around Dr. Venture's interactions with his new bodyguard, Sergeant Hatred; Hank taking Brock's absence poorly; Henchman #21 dealing with the death of Henchman #24; the return of Phantom Limb; and The Monarch's resurgence as Dr. Venture's primary nemesis. This season also saw the introduction of ancillary characters Captain Sunshine and Monstroso, both of whom were referred to as early as the first season.

The Monarch attempts to hold Hank and Dean for ransom, but his plan is foiled by the arrival of Monarch's old enemy Captain Sunshine. Sunshine recruits Hank to become the new Wonder Boy, complicating Monarch's scheme to collect his ransom.[8]

Rusty begins to indoctrinate Dean into his career as a super scientist, not knowing that a deformed and believed aborted Dean clone stalks the compound, while Dermott and a grounded Hank raise a little hell on the compound. The deformed clone's attempt to kill Dean leads to a mix up with Hank thinking that he's killed his brother, while local police prepare to raid the Compound after a UPS delivery man suspects illegal activities going on.[12] 
404 43 "Return to Malice" Doc Hammer November 8, 2009 4-43
In the wake of 24's untimely death, 21 has dedicated himself to becoming the most fearsome of the Monarch's henchmen. But tonight his ultimate plan of revenge goes into action. The first order of business: kidnapping the Venture brothers, resulting in Sgt. Hatred having to storm his former hometown of Malice to rescue his charges.[12] 
405 44 "The Revenge Society" Doc Hammer November 15, 2009 4-41
The Guild of Calamitous Intent comes under attack by an insane Phantom Limb, who now goes by the name "Revenge", literally bringing their entire army to Dr. Venture's front door. Meanwhile, Hank and Sergeant Hatred must protect the compound from the Guild's agents.[12]

Dr. Venture's therapy group, a collection of former Boy Adventurers (who have become failed adults), quickly fall back into their old habits when a mystery is literally dropped into their session. Meanwhile, Sgt. Hatred tries to overcome his own past when he's stuck in a movie theater crammed with kids. History is doomed to keep repeating itself if Hatred and Dr. Venture can't break their cycles.[12]

After seeing the OutRider, the man who stole his wife, pass through the Second World, Dr. Orpheus is determined to do the same. Meanwhile, Hank takes Dean to the mall to teach him how to talk to girls, and Triana has a life-altering discussion with The Master.

The Monarch teams up with Monstroso, a backstabbing lawyer and fellow member of the Guild, in his latest plan against Dr. Venture--a plan which runs the risk of backfiring on him. How will this affect Brock Samson and his new organization SPHINX, let alone the Ventures?[13] 
409 48 "The Diving Bell Vs. The Butter-Glider" Jackson Publick September 12, 2010[14] 4-50
Brock, Hank, and Dean are shrunk to microscopic size and is injected into Dr. Venture's body to discover why he is paralyzed. The Monarch's buys a "Butter-Glider", a new butterfly-themed personal flying device and becomes creepily obsessed with it, driving an emotional wedge between him, his henchmen, and his wife, and Henchman #21 continues his rise to power. 
410 49 "Pomp & Circuitry" Jackson Publick September 19, 2010 4-48
Hank and Dean graduate from their education beds, (although Hank did not receive his diploma and Dean did) and look into colleges. Hank rebels and tries to join Sphinx. Meanwhile, Phantom Limb breaks out of the Guild's dungeons and teams up with Professor Impossible to seek revenge once more. 
411 50 "Any Which Way But Zeus" Doc Hammer September 26, 2010 4-51
Somebody has been kidnapping the world's super-scientists and super-villains and taking them to a super death camp. But who? And to what end? The OSI, SPHINX, The Guild of Calamitous Intent and The Revenge Society must put aside their differences and convene a secret think tank to solve a mystery of epic proportions.

With Dean off to New York for a summer internship, Hank is forced by his father to get a job, so he opens his own business. But when Dermott accidentally prompts him to take on solving the mystery of whether Brock really is Dermott's father, Hank dons a fabled fedora to become a private detective and discovers far more than he bargained for as a tangled mystery of sex, lies, and dirty secrets lands right in his lap.

Chronology: This mini-episode was produced during the first season and was broadcast after the season finale. It takes place between the episodes "Past-Tense" and "The Trial of the Monarch".
