WQSR is a radio station broadcasting on 102.7 FM. The station is licensed to Baltimore and serves that market. CBS Radio owns the station. The station offers an adult rock hits format known as Jack FM

History

WQSR was originally located at 105.7 FM and was licensed to broadcast out of Catonsville, Maryland. Prior to the WQSR call sign, the call was WBMD-FM. It was purchased in the late 60's by Key Broadcasting, a corporation founded in 1947. The FM station was paired to a country AM station already owned by Key. That AM station, WBMD AM, played classical music from its inception through about 1952, but then became country and western until the mid 70's. In 1970, the FM's format became hard rock at night, with country during the day. Soon after, the station played only hard rock and changed its call to WKTK to avoid confusion with the WBMD AM station. From 1977 to 1979, WKTK played disco music, but later changed to oldies with the decline of disco. Around 1980 the call became WQSR ("SR" standing for "Super Radio") in anticipation of becoming the first ABC Network, satellite delivered programing, radio station. However, this was not to be, but the station kept its new call letters. WQSR was sold to Sconnix Broadcasting in 1988 and continued playing oldies music until the 1990s.

The station was sold to Infinity Radio in 1993. Infinity would sell to CBS in 1997 making WQSR a CBS station.

In the late 1990s, the late '70s music was brought back and the pre-1964 songs were cut back slightly. In 2001, some '80s music was also added and the pre 1964 songs were cut even more. In 2002, WQSR moved from 105.7 to 102.7 and WHFS now occupies 105.7. By 2003, the station was playing strictly songs from 1964 to 1979 with a handful of pre '64 and post '79 titles. Then in April 2005, has since adopted the Jack FM format abruptly dropping oldies.

WQSR was also the designation for "Quad 102-1/2", an album-oriented rock station in Sarasota, Florida that broadcast quadraphonic (4-channel) stereo to the Tampa Bay area during the mid-1970s. For more, search "Quad WQSR)".
