Watton United F.C. is a football club based in Watton, Norfolk, England, which played at level nine of the English football league system between 1986 and 2000.

History

Watton United (formerly RAF Watton) played in the East Anglian League from 1949-50, joining the Anglian Combination in 1964, when it was formed as an amalgamation of the East Anglian League and the Norfolk & Suffolk League, [cite book |last=Williams|first=M. & T. |title=Non-League Club Directory 2008 |publisher=Williams|year=2007 |location=|pages=p. 813| isbn=978-1-869833-57-2] and were champions in 1967, 1968 and 1986. They were promoted to the Eastern Counties Football League at level nine of the English football league system, in 1986 and when a second division was created in 1988, played in the Eastern Counties Football League Premier Division, still at level nine, until the club resigned midway through the 1999-00 season.cite web | title = Watton United | work =Football Club History Database | publisher =Richard Rundle | url =http://www.fchd.info/WATTONU.HTM | accessdate =2007-09-09 ] They returned to the Anglian Combination Division 2 in 2000-01 and were promoted to Division 1 that season. They were Division 1 champions in 2003-04 and were promoted to the Anglian Combination Premier Division. Following the departure of Manager, Robert Taylor, to Dereham Town, Watton struggled to compete in the Premier Division. Mike Derbyshire subsequently took over the role of First Team Manager, supported by former Reserve Team Manager, Vincent Harwood. Nevertheless, Watton had already made a poor start to the 2005/06 season and were ultimately unable to recover. They were eventually relegated into Anglian Combination Division 1. However, in 2007/08, Watton were promoted back to the Premier Division and reached the Anglian Combination Senior Knockout Cup Final in the same season.

Watton's reserves play in Division 5 of the Anglian Combination. They are managed by David Wilkins and Andrew Griffiths.

'A' team play in Central and South Norfolk Crown & Fire League Division 2.

The under-18's are in the Ridgeons Youth League North Division.

The club plays its home games at Watton Sports and Social Club, located on Dereham Road, Norfolk.

As of season 2008/09, the club will run a veterans team which will play in the Norfolk & Suffolk Veterans League.
