Spofforth, North Yorkshire

Spofforth with Stockeld is a village and civil parish in the county of North Yorkshire, England. It is located about 3 miles north west of Wetherby and 5 miles south of Harrogate.

The ruins of Spofforth Castle [http://www.castlexplorer.co.uk/england/spofforth/spofforth.php] [http://www.ukattraction.com/yorkshire/spofforth-castle.htm] , which date from the thirteenth century, are close to the centre of the village.Stockeld Park, south of the village near Sincklinghall, is a stone-built eighteenth century Palladian villa [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/244272] [http://www.touruk.co.uk/houses/houseyorkshire_stockeld.htm] .

Blind Jack Metcalf, the eighteenth century road builder, lived in Spofforth in his later years and is buried in Spofforth Churchyard.
