Table of World Heritage Sites based on State Parties

As of 2008, there are a total of 878 World Heritage Sites located in 145 "State Parties". [According to UNESCO World Heritage Site, [http://whc.unesco.org/en/statesparties/ States Parties] are countries that signed and ratified [http://whc.unesco.org/en/convention/ The World Heritage Convention] . As of November 2007, there are a total of 185 States Parties.] [http://whc.unesco.org/en/list World Heritage List] , UNESCO World Heritage Sites official sites.] Of these, 679 are cultural, 174 are natural and 25 are mixed properties. Further site classification includes the classification of the State Parties among five geographic zones: Africa, Arab States (composed of Arab League members), Asia-Pacific (including Australia, New Zealand and Oceania), Europe, North America (specifically the USA and Canada; Mexico is classified in the final category), and Latin America and the Caribbean.

"Note: The above maps are current as of 2007. Transboundary sites have been redistributed among the concerned countries, hence, have been counted multiple times.
