Ettore Capriolo

Ettore Capriolo

Ettore Capriolo was an accomplished Italian translator.

He translated Salman Rushdie's novel "The Satanic Verses". After a fatwa was issued by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, calling for the death of "the author of the Satanic Verses book, which is against Islam, the Prophet and the Qur'an, and all those involved in its publication who are aware of its content...", he was beaten and stabbed on 3 July 1991 at his home in Milan but was not killed.
