Ionic potential

Ionic potential

Ionic potential is the ratio of electric charge to the radius of an ion.

As such, the proportion measures the charge density at the surface of the ion; usually the denser the charge, the stronger the bond the ion forms will be.

Ionic potential gives the sense of how strongly or weakly ion will be electrostatically attracted to ions of opposite charge and to what extent the ion will be repel other ions of like charge.
