John Weiss

John Weiss (181879) was an American author and clergyman, as well as a noted abolitionist.

Weiss was born in Boston. He graduated at Harvard in 1837 and at the Harvard Divinity School in 1843, then preached at Watertown and New Bedford, Massachusetts About 1856, failing health compelled him to abandon preaching and travel to regain his health. In 1859, he resumed his work in the Unitarian church at Watertown, remaining there until 1870. On the issue of slavery, the Reverend John Weiss was an outspoken abolitionist. He was an advocate of woman's rights. His publications included "Life and Correspondence of Theodore Parker" (1864); "American Religion" (1871); and a translation of Schiller's "Philosophical and sthetic Letters and Essays" (1845).
