Henrique Meirelles

Henrique Meirelles

Henrique de Campos Meirelles (born August 31, 1945 in Anápolis, Goiás, Brazil) is the current president of the Banco Central do Brasil (Brazil's Central Bank). In 2002 he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies as a member of the party PSDB but resigned to assume in January 2003 his current position.

Mr Meirelles earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from University of São Paulo in 1972, and a MBA from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro - Coppead, 1974. He also attended Harvard Business School for post-graduate management work and has an honorary degree from Bryant College in Rhode Island. He spent most of his working career at BankBoston, becoming President of BankBoston Brazil from 1984 to 1996. In 1996 he became the President and Chief Operating Officer of BankBoston Corporation and in 1999 was named President of Global Banking for FleetBoston Financial. He has also held academic council positions at various American universities such as Harvard University and Boston College.
