Tony Sales

Tony Sales

Tony Sales is a rock and roll bass guitarist who, with his brother Hunt Sales, has played with Todd Rundgren, Iggy Pop and Tin Machine.

Career

Son of 1950s/60s television comedian Soupy Sales, Tony Sales grew up in Detroit with his brother Hunt. His first group was with Hunt in "Tony and the Tigers". They released the song "Turn It on Girl" which was a minor local hit in Detroit. Tony and the Tyrones appeared on TV show "Hullabaloo" in 1966 and also appeared on the local Detroit/Windsor dance show "Swingin' Time with Robin Seymour".

In 1977 the Sales brothers provided the rhythm section for the Iggy Pop album "Lust for Life". The pair joined Pop on his subsequent tour, recorded and released as "TV Eye Live 1977". Tony Sales had a car accident in 1979 and was in coma for over 8 months but he recovered from his injuries and went back in music.

David Bowie's memories of Hunt and Tony Sales' contribution to "Lust for Life" led him to invite them to join Tin Machine in the late 1980s. [David Buckley (1999). "Strange Fascination - David Bowie: The Definitive Story": p.451]

Personal life

Sales has two children, Valentina and Tony, with Taryn Power, daughter of the late American film star Tyrone Power and actress Linda Christian.
