SIG plc

SIG plc is an international supplier of insulation, roofing, commercial interiors and specialist construction products. In 2007, SIG reported half-yearly sales of over £1 billion, and was the highest earning and most profitable company in the Sheffield City Region. The Group operates in the several Western European countries and until 2006, the USA. It serves a wide range of markets across the full spectrum of the building, construction, petro-chemical and process sectors. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index.

The first insulation distribution branch was founded by Ernest Norman Adsetts and opened in Sheffield as Sheffield Insulations Limited in 1956. His son Norman Adsetts (now Sir Norman) joined the firm in 1966; he became Managing Director (1970) then Chairman (1985). The company became Sheffield Insulations Group plc in 1989 and was renamed SIG plc in 1995. In May 1996 Norman stepped down from the Board and became Honorary Life President. In 2002, David Williams was appointed Chief Executive.In 2008 David Williams Retired with Chris Davies taking his place as Chief Executive

*1989 - SIG lists on the London Stock Exchange as Sheffield Insulations Group with 30 insulation distribution branches.
*1990 - Acquisition of CDL a three branch supplier of ceilings products in the UK, now forming part of CPD.
*1994 – Acquisition of Freeman Group, the second largest insulation distributor in the UK.
*1994 - Acquisition of Isokauf in Germany, thus entering German market.
*1995 - Acquisition of Komfort Systems, partition systems for offices.
*1996 - Acquisition of WKT and Golinski, of Germany (and Poland).
*1997 - Acquisition of Asphaltic, a major UK roofing supplier.
*1997 - Acquisition of CP Supplies.
*1997 - Acquisition of Branton Industries and Distribution International in the USA. (later renamed SIG South West)
*2000 – Acquisition of Nouwens Group, and enter into Dutch market.
*2001 – Acquisition of Capco(Interiors, Roofing and Insulation) in UK and Ireland.
*2002 – Acquisition of AM Proos and Clydesdale Roofing supplies.
*2004 – UK Ceilings & Partitioning businesses merged to form CPD Plc.
*2004 - Acquisition of Orion Trent Insulation.
*2005 – Acquired Leaderflush Shapland (formerly LS Group), a manufacturer door sets in the UK, supplying hospitals and medical centers.
*2006 - Acquisition of Wodan (Poland) and WIG (Poland);
*2007 – Acquisition of Lariviere, thus entering the French Roofing market.
*2008 - Acquisition of Air Trade Centre International B.V.bringing the number of countries trading in to 17!
