Sheffield as Sheffield Insulations Limited in 1956. His sonNorman Adsetts (now Sir Norman) joined the firm in 1966; he became Managing Director (1970) then Chairman (1985). The company became Sheffield Insulations Group plc in 1989 and was renamed SIG plc in 1995. In May 1996 Norman stepped down from the Board and became Honorary Life President. *1994 – Acquisition of Freeman Group, the second largest insulation distributor in the UK.
*1994 - Acquisition ofIsokauf in Germany, thus entering German market.
*1995 - Acquisition of Komfort Systems, partition systems for offices.
*1996 - Acquisition of WKT and Golinski, of Germany (and Poland).
*1997 - Acquisition of Asphaltic, a major UK roofing supplier.
*1997 - Acquisition of CP Supplies.
