Shikome

Shikome

Shikome is a type of creature from Japanese mythology. It is depicted as a fierce and wild woman whom Izanami sent to destroy her husband Izanagi. The story has strong parallels to that of Orpheus and Eurydice. The Shikome themselves are a parallel to the Maenads, who tore Orpheus to pieces. In the Japanese version, Izanagi escapes.
