Arms of Kismet

Arms of Kismet

Arms of Kismet is an American alternative pop group led by singer-songwriter Mark Doyon. Their debut album, "Eponymous", was released in 2004, and its follow-up, "Cutting Room Rug", appeared in 2005. Both records were produced by Doyon and mastered by Jon Astley, a producer for Pete Townshend, George Harrison and Tori Amos. Arms of Kismet blends influences and styles ranging from British rock, country and psychedelia to punk and folk music.

Doyon spent the 1990s in Washington, D.C.-based Wampeters, and later exchanged that band's roots rock for a refracted pop "The Daily Vault" called "witty, idiosyncratic indie-rock that is to a band like Maroon 5 what a film like "Sideways" is to one like "Miss Congeniality 2"." Arms of Kismet toured in 2004-05, and are at work on a new album.

Doyon published a collection of short stories, "Bonneville Stories", in 2001. His second book, "Slingshot to Obscurity", a wry comment on navigating the independent music scene, will reportedly be published in 2008.
