Punnathurkotta

Punnathur Kotta is located in Kottapadi near Guruvayoor in the Thrissur district of Kerala, South India. Punnathur Kotta used to be the palace of a local ruler, but the grounds are now used to house the elephants belonging to the Guruvayoor temple, and has been renamed "Anakkotta", meaning "Elephant Fort". There are currently 86 elephants housed here, all offerings from by devotees of Lord Guruvayurappa, and they are trained here as well. The oldest elephant is around 75 years of age. "Gajapooja" (Worshipping Elephants) and "Anayoottu" (Feeding Elephants) are observed here, as an offering to Lord Ganesha.
