Federico Insúa (born January 3, 1980 in Buenos Aires) is an Argentine footballer currently playing for Club America (Mexico).

Nicknamed "El Pocho", Insúa grew up in a middle class family in Buenos Airesde icon Lustig, Jan: "Das Rätsel 'El Pocho'" in kicker Nr. 64/August 7, 2006 pg. 16] . He moved to the youth teams of Argentinos Juniors from the "Club Parque" football school, and debuted professionally on November 18 1997 [es icon Dana, Fabio, [http://espndeportes.espn.go.com/news/story?id=352156&redir=true "Insúa; ¿Nace un conductor xeneize?"] - ESPN Deportes.] . After 5 seasons with the club, he transferred to Club Atlético Independiente in 2002. After winning a local championship with Independiente, he moves to Spanish first division Málaga CF in 2003, but after only one unsuccessful season he returns to Independiente.

At the beginning of the 2005/2006 season Insúa again transferred, this time to Boca Juniors, debuting for Boca in the 4-1 victory over Gimnasia de Jujuy. Even though he had a slow start, he succeeded in becoming the play maker Boca Juniors needed, wining a local title and 2 international cups by the end of 2005.

Insúa debuted for the Argentina national football team in January 2003 [ [http://www.concacaf.com/Signals.asp?id=2/4/2003&year=2003 "CONFEDERATION ADMINISTRATION"] - CONCACAF] , and was capped 4 times. He is 1.79 metres tall (5 foot 10.5 inches) and weighs 73 kg.

On July 28, 2006, Federico Insúa transferred for 4 Million Euros to German Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach, which hoped to fill a gap in its offensive midfield. The 26-year-old midfielder put pen to paper on a four-year deal. The Argentine international wore the number ten shirt for Borussia.On February 3, 2007, he scored his first Bundesliga goal in a game against Arminia Bielefeld.

After the relegation of Borussia in the Fußball-Bundesliga 2006/07. He was sold to Club América for 7.5 million US Dollars, for 4 years, and he will get paid $1,875,000 US Dollars a year. He had joined the squad on June 27, 2007.
