Spiked (hairstyle)

Spiked and spiky are terms used to describe a variety of hairstyles in which the hair is formed into spikes.

Because of the inherent difficulty in spiking long hair, spiky hairstyles are usually fairly short. This is by no means always the case, however. Certain styles, including liberty spikes and various styles of mohawks feature quite long spikes.

Typically, the hair is held up by gel, hair spray, hair wax, hair mousse or even hair clay, Liberty spikes are generally held up by Elmers Glue and hair spray

It is believed that spiky hair originated as a punk fashion.

Spiky hairstyles are predominantly popular among men especially among young people, and it is the foundation of many of the popular hairstyles in pop culture in Asia, though it is a metrosexual style. Some members of Asian boyband such as TVXQ sometimes take on spiky hair of some form when they go on promotions.

Maintenance

Spiky hair, by its nature, and depending on the type of hair the wearer has, is typically a high-maintenance style, although after practice, can become quite routine for the wearer and done in a much shorter amount of time. Depending on the specific look desired by the wearer, frequent visits to the salon may be required to maintain the "spikyness" of the hair; this can be especially complicated
