Sarıyahşi is a town and district of Aksaray Province in the Central Anatolia region of Turkey, at a distance of convert|110|km|mi|0|abbr=on from the province seat of Aksaray. The district is good agricultural land watered by Hirfanlı Dam reservoir, and used for growing grain and other crops. There is a uranium mine in the village of Bekdik and various stone quarries.

The town of Sarıyahşi is a small rural centre providing schools and other basic amenities to the surrounding countryside.

History

This part of central Anatolia has seen the passage of numerous great armies and civilisations from Alexander the Great, through Romans and Byzantines, to the Seljuk Turks in 1096. Then the Crusades, and further waves of Turks including the Khalaj tribe from northern Iran and the Emirbey. Finally from 1402 the area came within the Ottoman Empire.
