Logie Awards of 2006

Logie Awards of 2006

The 48th Annual TV Week Logie Awards were presented on Sunday May 7 2006 at the Crown Entertainment Complex in Melbourne and televised on the Nine Network.

The final nominees in each of the categories – as well as the 11 industry-voted Most Outstanding awards – was announced at the "50 Years of Television Exhibition" at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney on 3 April.

In an historic first, the public then voted for their choice of the eight nominees (instead of five) for the Gold Logie via SMS or a 1900 number, right up until the awards night.

There was also a new award - "The Graham Kennedy Award for Most Outstanding new talent". This award was presnted by Graham Kennedy's close friend Noleine Brown.

The first International Guest Presenter to be announced was Joan Rivers. P!nk & Sherbet also performed on the night. Other celebrities that attended were George Eads from , Chris Noth from and Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.

Chas Licciardello of The Chaser team took pains to appear in as many shots throughout the Channel Nine broadcast as possible by executing an extreme version of the "bonehead" phenomenon, in which people in the background of camera shots try to attract attention to themselves. Chas went so far as to appear on stage when Blue Water High was awarded for Most Outstanding Children's Program. [http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,21648574-28957,00.html]
