The Center School (Manhattan)

The Center School is a public middle school located in the Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York City, United States.

This school was founded by Elaine Schwartz in 1982, and as of 2008 she is still serving as the Director. This is a small school with 204 students from the 5th to 8th grades. The school has very small classes of about 12 to 18, and mixes grades in all classes except for Math, Lit and Latin (the only language that is taught to all 6th grade students).The Center School is a blue ribbon school.

The school is known for its annual all-school trips. It begins at the end of each school year and is funded by money raised by students. Fundraising activities include an annual Jogathon, magazine sales, gift wrapping sales and bake sales. The trip alternates from each year from camps and cities. Cities visited include Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and Boston. Camps range from locations in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.

The school has been involved in forms of activism. The school raised money for survivors of hurricane Katrina and survivors of the tsunami.
