Raimondi College

Raimondi College (Chinese: 高主教書院) is going to be a co-educational English-medium secondary school located in the Mid-Levels of Hong Kong. It was named after Bishop Timoleon Raimondi, the first Vicar Apostolic of Hong Kong. Ever since its establishment the college has enjoyed a proud reputation in providing high quality education to youths in Hong Kong. The school hopes to instill the values of "perseverance, love and unity" in every student attending the school by promoting "all-round education" in the hope that Raimondians will develop strengths in all areas of their personalities. The school will carry out expansion works in early 2008 which will, in the future, help the school to maintain its well-established reputation as one of the best schools in Hong Kong.

Background

Founded in 1958, the College has nurtured numerous elite students who are now in the pinnacle of their careers and hold prominent positions in various fields, including the legal, medical and engineering professions, as well as the HKSAR Government. Riding on the pride of their alumni's achievements, the new generation of Raimondians have continued to strive for excellence - In addition to achieving remarkable academic performances, their talents and hardwork have constantly been recognized by awards in inter-school music, sports and debating competitions.

chool History

1958 Raimondi College opened. It was dedicated to the memory of Bishop Raimondi, the first Catholic Bishop of Hong Kong. Raimondi College was the first Catholic Diocesan secondary school established in Hong Kong.Father J. Carra was appointed as Supervisor and Principal.

1961 The late Mr. Edward Chan was appointed as Principal;the Old Boys' Association was founded

1964 Mr. Y. S. Mui was appointed as Principal.

1966 The Parent-Teacher Association was founded.

1967 Three Secondary 6 classes were opened with the completion of the Form 6 Building

1968 Mr. A. C. Morales was appointed as Principal.

1969 The Student Union was founded.

1971 The New Extension Building was completed.

1978 The Secondary Section of the College became a fully aided school.

1991 Father J. Carra, the Supervisor passed away.

1992 Father J. B. Tsang was appointed as Supervisor.

1995 Mr. G. W. Au was appointed as Principal.

1996 Renovation of the Secondary School Hall completed.

1998 The Education Department granted approval for the Secondary Section to use English as the medium of instruction.

2000 Secondary 6 & 7 became co-educational

2002 The Raimondi Old Boys' Association was renamed as Raimondi Alumni Association

2004 External School Review completed

School Buildings

The school consists of 3 buildings, viz. the Main Building, the Form Six building, and the Form Two Building.

The Main Building of Raimondi College is the tallest secondary school in Hong Kong. The Main Building of the College has two exits, with the ground floor exit at Glenealy and the eighth floor exit at Robinson Road.

The first six floors of the building presently act as the primary school section, while the eight floors above are the secondary school section.

Future Development

The primary section will move to Wan Chai in the year 2008 and the secondary section will occupy the whole school building allowing extra capacity to adapt to the new demands of the 3-3-4 education system, as well as being able to make new classrooms to shrink class sizes and aid in developing a more diverse learning curriculum for each Raimondian.
