Matthew Allwright (born 14 April 1970)^{[citation needed]} is a British television presenter and journalist who specialises in consumer affairs. He is best known for presenting shows such as Watchdog and Rogue Traders and for being The One Show's consumer advice reporter. He also occasionally presents The One Show alongside Alex Jones.

Education

Allwright was educated at two independent schools in Berkshire: at Dolphin School in Hurst (near Reading) and Reading Blue Coat School in Sonning, followed by the University of Manchester, where he gained a degree in English.^[1]

Life and career

Allwright first appeared on television in 1996, reporting for Watchdog. After this he was given a regular presenting job on the show. He left the programme in 2001 to presented his own investigative consumer show called Rogue Traders. In the show Allwright chases unscrupulous tradesmen and salesmen to confront them, often after having witnessed their wrongdoings while in disguise. He is accompanied on his journey by a biker named Dan Penteado. Rogue Traders is in its ninth series on BBC One.

Allwright has also presented a number of other shows, including Brassed Off Britain (2004), Scambusters (2004), and Fat Nation (2004), as well as making films for Holiday and a number of other BBC One programmes.

He appeared as a panellist and presenter on The Wright Stuff and in 2006, he took part in the BBC singing contest Just the Two of Us, with his singing partner Jocelyn Brown.[1]

Matt plays guitar and sings in a band. He lives with his wife and two children in London. He has professed to being an avid supporter of Liverpool F.C..

He has also presented Food Poker on BBC Two.

In the early nineties, he worked for two weeks as a bee-keeper.

He is a patron of SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society).^[2]

Since 2 August 2008, he is the presenter of Rogue Restaurants on BBC1. Over Christmas 2008 he presented a programme called Christmas on the Frontline, which involved him going to Camp Bastion in Afghanistan to visit the British Armed Forces stationed there.

The BBC announced on 27 April 2010 that he will be temporary stand-in host on The One Show after Adrian Chiles leaves for ITV.
