Penned in the Margins

Penned in the Margins produces live literature, poetry and spoken word on page and stage. Established in 2004 by Tom Chivers and operating out of London’s East End since 2006, they are at the forefront of a ‘new breed of literary nights out, fusing poetry with beats and beers’ (Flavorpill).

Penned in the Margins has promoted some of London's most popular literary events, selling out venues from Bishopsgate Institute to Cargo and The Spitz. They produce national touring projects such as the acclaimed live poetry show Generation Txt, featuring Joe Dunthorne, Inua Ellams, Laura Forman, Abigail Oborne, Emma McGordon and James Wilkes. Penned in the Margins founder Tom Chivers is also Co-Director of London Word Festival.

Penned in the Margins is also an independent literary press. Publications include: Generation Txt (anthology), Man in Black by David Caddy and Peckham Blue by Susie Gordon. Forthcoming are Things To Do Before You Leave Town by Ross Sutherland and Charismatic Megafauna by Tamsin Kendrick.

Radio Show

Penned in the Margins is also the name of a radio show which was broadcast on Resonance FM every Sunday between 1.30pm and 2.00pm between October 2005 and January 2007. The show was presented and produced by Tom Chivers and featured live performances of poetry, as well as music and discussion.
