Electoral (Amendment) Act 2005

The Electoral (Amendment) Act 2005 (No. 16/2005) [http://www.oireachtas.ie/documents/bills28/acts/2005/a1605.pdf] , is a law of the Republic of Ireland which provided for parliamentary constituencies to take effect at the 2007 general election for the 30th Dáil Éireann. The election took place in May 2007.

This Act replaced the Electoral (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 1998 (No. 19/1998), which defines the constituencies used for the 29th Dáil (elected in 2002).

The Act was challenged in the High Court by Finian McGrath TD and former TD Catherine Murphy on the grounds that it left too many constituencies under or over-represented. However the High Court rejected the challenge. [http://www.rte.ie/news/2007/0607/mcgrathf.html]
